The Space

Welcome to "The Space", the place where reading comix takes another dimension ...
There is an introductive story here

 Full Version        Simplified version
In "the Space", the pages are laid down to compose an unique page. Potentially, it is an infinite comic.

To read it, one just has to grab a page and move it around. All the pages will follow, maintaining the structure of the meta-comic. New pages will be loaded , if they exists, as needed.

On the right click of the mouse (shift + click on Opera) a contextual menu enables the reader to enlarge the current page, select a translation (if available), show the local sequence of pages, the list of stories directly connected to the current one and others.

If this version of the "Navigator" (for "The Space") is not compatible with your browser, try thereduced version (click on "Simplified Version" above).

There are keyboard shortcuts (generally in the form of Shift + one button) for almost every function of the navigator. You may hover with the curson on any of the commands to read its shortcut. You may drag and move the pages, or use the movement buttons. It is possible to open a context menu, on any page, using mouse right click.

Move: Left Up Down Right reverse movement commands

Notes on using "Space": read the drop down menu under the question mark. (?)Position of the center: 2, 1
This page looks odd? Probably, you have reached it through some direct link, or the cookie we use to store the values of your screen resolution has expired.

You should go to the homepage of the site, to renovate it. You can pressherehere to do so. Sorry for the problem.

Forewords: welcome to "The Space"

This site is dedicated to - given its name, it should not be a surprise - the comics. No, not to Jerry Lewis, Buster Keaton, Oliver & Hardy etc... though they have their share of merits.

The other ones... Flash Gordon, Mafalda, Dago, Akira, Tin Tin, Superman & co. You know what I mean...

More in detail, this site is dedicated to the presentations of new comics by their authors, and to a form of reading comics in the web that we choose to call "The [Comic's] Space", which we first thought of after reading in "Reinventing comics", a book by Scott McLoud, about an "Infinite Comic" in the web.

We hope that Scott will pardon us, for we tried to build a system to allow the creation of such a comic (it has been a nightmare...).

This site is built around this, aforementioned, "Comics Space" - we call it "The Space" - that you can see up here (this message is supposed to appear in the site's home but, beware, if you are not members, "The Space" here will be in preview mode).

If you have any story to share, or you want to play with the characters that are already into "The Space", go read the TOS section, sign up and publish here your work. We are not going to steal it (well, read carefully the TOS anyway, and most of all its copyrights section, to avoid surprises...).

All the utilities required to publish a story (or a "space fragment"...) are into the "Comics Lab" section of the site ( members only, pals).

We are quite proud of the javascript for placing the pages, once the story is complete

It will be fun to see stories created with the idea of playing with The Space (it's not that easy...).

So, come, join.  Publish your stuff...

P.S. If you are a critic at heart, you may also join the revisors' corps!!
Ve are also looking for moderators for the forums.

Read the FAQ & the TOS

If you wish to join us, we suggest you to read the TOS. It's quite lengthy, we know, but also contains a great deal of details about the characteristics of this site.

We recommend, if you have any doubt, to read our FAQ section.

It is possible that, for some items, there may be no appropriate translation in your language.

In this case you can read the English version and, if you could kindly provide us with a translation, we would be very grateful and we'll also evaluate adding it to the FAQ (reporting the name of the translator, obviously).

If you do not find any useful entry in the FAQ, you can send an email to the webmaster detailing your question.

We will be glad to answer and, maybe, add it to the FAQ.

We Need You!

Right now, this site is mainly an empty space... and an enormous one at that, to be honest.

"The Space" is a "place" whose logical limits, although extants, are in excess of those of a square with 10.000.000.000 tiles on each border...

Probably, more than enough place to put all the pages of comics printed (not drawn, printed) since the beginning of this medium.
Without the need to stack any of them over another one, too.

Just to fill it, it would be necessary the effort of every comic creator that happened to have born on planet Earth...

To create the "default maps" that are to be used as a basis in the choice of where to lay the pages, some "Cartographer" hand would be useful.

The forums are waiting for moderators, as much as the Chat rooms.

Someone is needed to write reviews, to inform about news, to contribute to the Downloads Section...

We need you, people. All of you.
And your cheers.
